Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Born and raised on the suburbs of Barcelona her music was described as an "atypical pop singer" because of her genre-bending musical styles. She was attracted by Spanish folk music when she was just 13 years old. She was a musicologist at the Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. The album combines flamenco with hip-hop and pop the album produced "Malamente" (single) as well as "Pienso in tu mira (single). Both singles have been hugely successful and garnered a lot of critical praise. El Mal Querer was the first to bring Rosalia to the international music scene. [12][1313 Rosalia was a pioneer of urbano music through her albums of 2019 "Con Altura" and "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi", achieving global success. With her third studio album Motomami (2022), she gave reggaeton a fresh style, straying slightly from the flamenco sound of the first. The album received worldwide attention for its songs "La Fama" and "Saoko" and was subsequently the most reviewed album this year by Metacritic. Rosalia has had a record of ten top-ten songs in the course of her career in her native country. It's the highest number for an artist from that area. Rosalia has won 11 Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards and four MTV Europe Music Awards as well as three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award, in 2019, for "changing the style of popular music with her distinctive flamenco pop". [18] She is also the first singing Spanish group to be nominated as the Best New Artist at the Grammys.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She was born into an unartistic family and is the eldest child of Pilar Tobella who runs a small family-owned business that specializes in metalworks. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They divorced in the year 2019. (23). She has an older sister, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989), who works with Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts as a child, particularly after she discovered the discography of Camaron de la Isla. She began her musical studies at Taller de Musics. She completed an entire six-year study in the academy. She began in the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. [25] She also worked on her own as a singer for weddings, bars with music and other occasions. She was offered "a less than 80 euros or in exchange for dinner". Rosalia also met many underground Spanish musicians during this time including La Zowi (Yung Beef), Kaydy Cain and Hinds.
